Hi everyone. It has now been a week since we participated in the 50 mile MS Challenge Walk and everyone is nicely recovered. I did have some blisters this year but I believe this was because the percentage of combed cotton in the socks I wore was only 82% when what I really needed was 85% combed cotton ...
What?
It had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that I weigh 260 lbs ...
Shut up ...
It was the socks!
Anyway, both Mom and I had trouble the 2nd day, me because I had some kind of bug and my Mom because she had a sugar issue but we finished stong on Sunday. (click more to continue)
Follow up:
As usual we walked as part of team "Cocktails For a Cure", because nothing helps you train for a 50 mile walk more than large amounts of alcohol. Here is Jimmy and John Scannell in their staff shirts at the beginning (Jimmy was in charge af making sure all the coffee got disposed of properly)
The course was quite lovely and went through quite a bit of the Cape. Here are Mom, Ann and Priscilla taking a break by the water.
Here is my almost 70 year old mother finishing the first 20 miles of the walk. Doesn't she looks great?!
Dad was part of the lunch crew every day and as usual, he got overdressed for the occasion
Here is Team Cocktails hanging out by the medical building
Each night they had a speakers and awards (P.S. ask Jimmy about his special button)
A tired end to a long day (aren't they cute?)
Here is my friend Dr. Amy. She saved my feet the first year I did this. I have pictures of that but they are not for the faint of heart.
Here are a few pics of Team Cocktails at the end of the walk ... Woo Hoo!
We finished with a parade into the center of Hyannis where we were met by Patti, Jen, Maeve, Conor, and Shea.
I want to thank everyone for supporting us and this wonderful cause. The "Cocktails For a Cure" team raised about $30,000 this year and the whole event rasied about $1.5 million. The majority of this money goes directly to research and local programs to assist people with MS.
If you would like to see more pictures please visit my flickr page here MS CHallenge 2008 set. Once there click on the slide show button in the top right. If you would like to print any of the pictures you can start a flickr account (it's free) and send me a friend request. Once you are my friend you will be able to order prints and either have them sent to you or pick them up at any Target. Thanks again everyone. Cheers!
